As expectant parents you will be preparing for your little one’s arrival and getting everything ready including their wardrobe. It’s easy to go overboard with cute newborn clothes but finding the right balance is key. But how many clothes should you have ready for a newborn?

Onesies and Bodysuits:

Onesies and bodysuits will be the foundation of your baby’s wardrobe. These are great for everyday wear and can be layered under other outfits or worn on their own in warmer months. Aim for 7-10 onesies or bodysuits in newborn size and the same in 0-3 months size to allow for growth.

Sleepers:

For bedtime sleepers are a must. Look for footed sleepers or footless sleepers depending on the weather. 5-7 sleepers in newborn and 0-3 months size will give you enough options for nightwear.

Pants and Leggings:

Pants or leggings with onesies and tops is a great way to create cute and comfy outfits for your little one. Aim for 5-7 pairs of pants or leggings in different colours to mix and match with various tops.

Socks and Booties:

Little feet need to stay warm so stock up on soft socks and booties. Since these can get lost easily it’s a good idea to have 5-7 pairs to always have some on hand.

Hats and Mittens:

Hats are a must for your newborn’s head especially during colder months. Mittens will prevent them from scratching their delicate skin accidentally. Have 2-3 hats and mittens each to rotate and keep your baby warm.

Swaddling Blankets:

Swaddling blankets are cute and practical for comforting and settling your newborn. Aim for 3-5 swaddling blankets that are lightweight and breathable.

Outfits for Special Occasions:

While most of your baby’s wardrobe will be everyday wear, it’s nice to have a few special outfits for special occasions or photoshoots. Get a couple of dressy outfits or cute onesies for these special moments.

Burp Cloths and Bibs:

Newborns are known for their spit ups and dribbles so having plenty of burp cloths and bibs on hand is a must. Aim for at least 10 burp cloths and 5-7 bibs to help you manage the mess.

Weather-Appropriate Outerwear:

Depending on your climate you may need weather appropriate outerwear, a lightweight jacket for spring or a snowsuit for winter. Make sure you have the necessary clothing items to keep your baby comfortable outdoors.

Don’t Overdo It:

While it’s fun to dress up your newborn in cute outfits it’s important not to overdo it. Babies grow so fast and some clothes will only be worn once or twice before they outgrow them. Keep your collection practical and manageable to avoid clutter.

You’ll have enough clothing for your baby to be comfortable, warm and dressed for everything. Remember the essentials and most importantly enjoy these moments with your little one – whatever they’re wearing!
